Teachers of mathematics for centuries have helped students understand mathematics using “manipulatives”-- visual objects that help illustrate mathematical relationships and applications. Manipulatives allow students to visually examine, explore and develop concepts.

The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) at Utah State University has transported these powerful teaching tools into the virtual dimension of the computer. The NLVM collection of over 100 interactive software programs, called “applets,” are an effective means for accelerating and deepening students' understanding of math.

Main Features :

1. Virtual Math Manipulatives- covering all grades K-12. Set of 116 virtual math manipulatives--many with additional sub-activities!
2. Installable on individual computers and servers, enabling use without internet connection and eliminating problems of high traffic and downtime on NLVM Internet Edition website.
3. Export Image feature makes it easy to save color "snapshots" (in jpg format) of manipulatives for access outside the NLVM.
4. Print Image feature for all manipulatives. A single click prints current manipulative configuration to printer or monotone.
5. Save Work feature in 27 of the more complex manipulatives allows teachers to pre-set problems for demonstrations or assignments, and students to save completed work for review.
6. Data Load feature in statistics manipulatives allows import of tab or comma delimited data.
7. Multilingual edition allows you to change instantly from one language to another (English, Spanish, French, and Chinese).
8. Make Activity feature for all manipulatives. Easily create an html webpage with activity instructions and interactive manipulative. Customize using any text editing software (Notepad, Microsoft Word, Dreamweaver, etc.) and then share with other teachers and students!
